Matt Oliver decided to take a chance on a Division II college after he won a New Jersey high school state wrestling championship. When Oliver's career ended as a Division II All-American for Newberry College, he pondered what was next.

Enter a call from an old Newberry teammate luring him away from the Boardwalk on the New Jersey Shore to the flat lands of Chanute, Kansas. Then came another opportunity, a chance to lead a program as a head coach.

On Episode 161 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, I'll visit with Oliver, the new head coach at Spartanburg Methodist College, a junior college in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Oliver takes over for the 12-year-old program after spending two years as an assistant at Neosho County Community College.

Oliver will break down the choice to compete in Division II, cutting his teeth in coaching at Neosho and what really is the correct answer when it comes to the age-old question of whether it's pop or soda.

It's an entertaining interview with Oliver.

Central Oklahoma senior Chris Watson has battled through injuries his entire career. As a senior, Watson was, for the most part, injury free as he went 42-0 and captured the 165-pound NCAA Division II championship.

Then something went a bit wonky. Watson's arm doubled in size and started changing color. A trip to the doctor would come back negative, but then came a second and the diagnosis that Watson had a life-threatening blood clot.

This wasn't just something that could be taken care of with some blood thinners, Watson needed a rare surgery to rid himself of the eight-inch clot in his shoulder.

On Episode 160 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, Chris Watson opens up about how he won an NCAA championship with a massive clot. He also breaks down an intriguing decision to opt for Division II Central Oklahoma after he initially decided he wasn't going to wrestle in college.

It's an informative and entertaining look into the fight and the background of the NCAA Division II Wrestler of the Year, Chris Watson, on the Short Time Wrestling Podcast

So what more can be written about Dan Gable?

That's exactly what Scott Schulte set to find out as he recently released a book penned with Gable called "A Wrestling Life: The Inspiring Stories of Dan Gable."

On Episode 159 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, I'll have a chat with Schulte, a self-professed storyteller by trade and mild-mannered editor of an Iowa weekly newspaper in his other life.

Schulte breaks down the process of how he, while then living in Connecticut, connected with Gable at the 2012 Olympic Trials and how that meeting evolved into a book that contains stories as told by Gable that have never previously been published.

A Wrestling Life is available at Amazon.com and your local big box bookseller like Barnes & Noble.

It'd been 12 years since an unseeded wrestler had reached the NCAA Division I championship finals. Back then, they only seeded to 12. With the field now seeded at 16, having an unseeded wrestler reach the finals is less likely.

No one told West Virginia true freshman Zeke Moisey.

Despite coming in with 13 regular-season losses, Moisey reached the championship finals at 125 pounds before falling to Ohio State nemesis Nathan Tomasello. Under first-year head coach Sammie Henson, Moisey joined us on Episode 158 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast to talk about his high school career at Bethlehem Catholic, the decision not to redshirt, recovering from surgery and what it's like to be #BullTrained.

Only four people in the history of Division I college wrestling have won four individual national titles. Prior to 2015, that list was only three. Ohio State's Logan Stieber won his fourth championship last month to join Pat Smith, Cael Sanderson and Kyle Dake in the exclusive club.

On Episode 157 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, I'll talk with the one they call Logie Bear about the Ohio State Buckeyes first team championship, the pressure on trying to win four titles, the pressure in watching his younger brother Hunter battle through injuries.
Stieber talks about the journey from tiny Monroeville, Ohio to Columbus and when he knew he was going to be a Buckeye. He'll address Cleveland State, Mike Pucillo and his future in freestyle wrestling.

Stieber also talks about some individual performances from other teams he noticed at the NCAA championships and maybe who he might have voted for the Hodge Trophy if he could not have voted for himself.

Unfortunately, this is the second Short Time episode in the same week that deals with a threatened college wrestling program. On Monday, March 30, Cleveland State University announced it was going to discontinue funding of the wrestling program effective after the 2015-16 season. The move would make way for men's lacrosse to enter the varsity athletics picture.

Several things didn't make sense as to why a school would be adding a more expensive sport to its athletic programming and one that wasn't sanctioned as a high school championship sport in the state of Ohio, where Cleveland State draws the majority of its students.

So we set out to get answers on Episode 156 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, we'll get some information on the Cleveland State situation with the school's Athletic Director, John Parry.

Parry will address questions about why lacrosse, what wrestling can to do maintain its place on campus and most of all, why a school would start a sport -- if there's no funding for it.
