Technology always changes the way people do things. In wrestling, it's no different. On Episode 146 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, I'll talk with two people who are trying to change the sport for the better -- one with scoring and the other with information.

Jack Moses launched the Takedown App, an iPad app aimed at saving, preserving and streamlining the scoring of dual meets and team data. Jack's Takedown App and Takedown Live, where fans can follow their teams who use the Takedown App, can be found online at LevelChanger.com.

Jack talks about the idea behind how it got started and where he'd like to see his app used consistently.

A Georgia native, Thomas Kimbrell wrestled at CSU Bakersfield and came up with an idea to put college wrestling results in more of a mobile format. With that in mind, Kimbrell and some friends started developing the Centermat App, available for both iOS and Android at Centermatwrestling.com.

This past season, Kmbrell's app tracked as many dual meets as they could find and will be working to add tournament functionality as the company grows.

There's always a lot of discussion when it comes to the future and plan for the NWCA National Duals. On Episode 145 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer answers questions related to this year's Finals Weekend at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City and the future of the event.

The first-round bouts held on Feb. 14-15 determined the eight teams that qualified for Finals Weekend. Moyer talks about why it was a "regional" site and how travel worked out for some teams and how the National Duals has been tweaking its concept in the past few years.

Jason Moorman doesn't coach two programs, he coaches one. The head coach of King University's wrestling program, with men's and women's teams, is fresh off a busy weekend which saw his women's team win its second straight Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association national championship and his men's team compete in duals a day later.

On Episode 144 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, we'll talk to Moorman on his progression and ascension in women's wrestling, the growth of the program and the impact both teams can have on one another.

In our second segment, we'll catch up with the always entertaining Julia Salata. The Michigan native recently capped her college career with a second WCWA national title. Salata talks about being a training partner at the World Championships, some of the most interesting aspects of places like Pattaya and Tashkent and she'll give some insight on what's next now that the college part of her wrestling career has come to a close.

She's also a wickedly good karaoke partner.

On Episode 143 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, the final part of the three-part series remembering Vision Quest talks with Matthew Modine, the actor who played the role of Louden Swain.

Modine, who's starred in numerous films over the years also has a penchant for writing, which has led him to write over a dozen short films during his career.

He's recently released an audio account of his memories during filming of one of his most notable roles in Full Metal Jacket with the Full Metal Jacket Diary (FullMetalJacketDiary.com). Modine talks about that experience and then recaps all that went in to shooting Vision Quest. He breaks down the casting, relationship with the directors and how the role still is remembered today.

There's a lot of great backstory with Matthew Modine, the man forever linked to Louden Swain.

Check out our previous interview with Terry Davis at www.mattalkonline.com/vq1 and Frank Jasper, the man who played Brian Shute at www.mattalkonline.com/vq2.

On Episode 142 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, the second part of the three-part series remembering Vision Quest talks with Frank Jasper, the actor who played the role of Brian Shute.

Vision Quest, originally a book by Terry Davis written in 1979, was released in theaters on February 15, 1985. This series honors the 30-year anniversary of the movie by talking to some of the notable names behind the film and the story itself.

Jasper, currently a holistic medicine professional in Santa Monica, California, made a re-appearance to the wrestling world a few years back when he was highlighted at the annual Beat The Streets Battle on Broadway. Japser talks about what he's doing now and some of the things he remembers about shooting the role. Japser was a high school wrestler and was an athletic trainer at Eastern Washington University when he was encouraged to audition for a role of a wrestler -- he never thought it would be as iconic as it's become.

Continuing with the theme, we're talking Penn State vs. Iowa at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pa., on February 8. The attendance record could be in jeopardy again as the Iowa-Penn State matchup has been elevated in recent years and has blown up into once of wrestling's fiercest rivalries.

On Episode 141 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, we get Penn State coach Cael Sanderson's take on hosting the dual at the BJC, his thoughts on what it's going to take to win the dual and key matchups at 174 pounds and 197 pounds.

Sanderson also addresses the status of the redshirting Nico Megaludis and Zain Retherford, although it's less about them being redshirted than it is about their time during the redshirt year.

It's sure to be packed at the BJC on Sunday.

Short Time will also present a new listener feedback featured called Sound Off. Listeners can go to www.mattalkonline.com/contact and leave an audio message of a topic that concerns them in wrestling, a shout out to a great performance or leave general feedback for the wrestling community. Episode 140 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast talks with University of Iowa head wrestling coach Tom Brands.

Penn State is set to host Iowa on February 8 at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pa., and the Nittany Lion faithful could be on their way to setting another wrestling attendance mark. They set it last year against Pittsburgh, but with Iowa coming to town, the fire marshal might have have to look the other way.

We'll talk with coach Brands about the win over No. 2 Minnesota on Friday, January 30 and some of the key matchups as the Hawkeyes head east.

Brands also talks about his team's participation in the National Duals and why dual meets do matter as well as some memories of his days during the Penn State-Iowa series.

I'll tell you this now as well, we'll have the Penn State viewpoint later in the week on Episode 141 with Cael Sanderson.
