Pat Timm spent 15 years as the head coach at Division II Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota. When Timm decided it was time to step down, he wanted to make sure he was going to leave the program in good hands and help the search for a new head coach.

Then the administration decided to nix that idea, announcing just days after the close of the Division II wrestling season and two weeks after Timm's resignation was handed in, the program was going to be suspended for two years as the school was going to analyze the long-term viability of the program.

On Episode 155 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, I'll talk to Timm about what all that means and how he's now been thrust back into the role of trying to save the program. Information on how to contribute and save the program can be found at DakotaGrappler.com and on the Save Northern State University Wrestling facebook page.

Back in studio after the lengthy postseason travel. Episode 154 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast talks with the nation's top big man, two-time NCAA Division I heavyweight champion Nick Gwiazdowski of N.C. State.

Gwiazdowski became a three-time All-American at the 2015 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. His second title was a 7-6 win over Michigan's Adam Coon. Gwiazdowski is one of the most active heavyweights in recent memory and his style actually makes people want to watch the heavyweights more than the 2-1 dancing bears many seem to associate with the weight class.

Gwiazdowski talks about his first year at Binghamton, having to face eventual champion Tony Nelson in the first round and wrestling back for eighth place, then the decision to follow coach Pat Popolizio to N.C. State.

Gwiazdowski also breaks down the turning points in the season, his big breakfast following nationals and what the term "Pack Mentality" means to him.

It's a great discussion on wrestling, coaching and life as a heavyweight on Episode 154 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast.

On Episode 153 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, we check in with Ben Askren about the Flo Premier League V event with two bouts and the big winner from the Missouri Border Brawl from Union Station in St. Louis on Tuesday night.

Jaydin Clayton beat Kaid Brock in the featured high school match of the night. Clayton talked with Richard Immel of USA Wrestling following the match.

Four-time All-American Tyler Caldwell pinned past Edinboro All-American Chris Honeycutt in the first match of FPL V, then Ed Ruth rallied to pin Jake Herbert in the night's final bout. We caught up with Ruth and Caldwell and FPL commissioner Ben Askren about the development of the league and having an event on Tuesday prior to the NCAA Championships.

Information on donating to the Border Brawl and upcoming events can be found at http://www.moborderbrawl.com/donate-now/.

On Episode 152 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, I'll preview the now-release Mat Talk Online Division I Wrestling Championship Fan Guide, which is for sale now. I'll also go on a little rant about why the Division III Wrestling Championships is one of the five most-exciting wrestling tournaments in the world, and then I'll do some interviews.

Augsburg won the school's 12 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championship on Saturday at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pa. The Auggies did it with lots and lots of bonus points. On this episode, I'll catch up with interim head coach Jim Moulsoff and two-time Division III champion and tournament OW Mike Fuenffinger.

On Episode 151 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, we catch up with two-time NCAA wrestling champion Johny Hendricks as he prepares for his upcoming fight at UFC 185 in Dallas against UFC veteran Matt Brown.

We're also running a special promotion in conjunction with Team Takedown. If you buy a shirt from www.johnyhendricks.com between now and fight night, you'll be entered into a drawing to win a pair of autographed Johny Hendricks fight gloves.

We get to the origination of the spelling of his nickname, which believe it or not, comes from World of Warcraft. We'll also talk about how he's been managing his weight and now working again with Kenny Monday. Hendricks looks back at fights with Robbie Lawler and Georges St. Pierre and how those two losses continue to drive him.

Hendricks talks about his days at Oklahoma State and how he had to embrace the bad guy image and how much easier it is now for him to simply be himself. He also addresses the thought of a fight with Ben Askren and we get to the bottom of the alleged All-Star Classic bout that never happened. There's also quite a twist.

The 58th annual NAIA National Championships came to a close on Saturday, March 7 in Topeka, Kansas and for the fourth straight year, Grand View University captured the team championship.

Powered by nine placewinners and championships from 125-pounder Ryak Finch and 141-pounder Brandon Wright, the Vikings won their fourth title in the program's seventh year of existence.

I caught up with Grand View head wrestling coach Nick Mitchell to talk about this year's team and how tough it was to try to follow last year's record-setting season.

Brock Gutches of Southern Oregon became just the seventh four-time champion in NAIA wrestling history with a major decision victory over Travis McIntosh of Campbellsville in the finals at 174 pounds. Along with Gutches, we picked up some chatter with Joey Cozart, a two-time champion from Lindsey Wilson. Both have extensive Greco-Roman backgrounds.

Some notable firsts and a crazy story about a young man still learning how to wrestle emerged from the 58th annual NAIA National Wrestling Championships in Topeka, Kansas on Friday.

One of the most interesting stories is from North Carolina native Ceron Francisco, who came in unranked and now he's wrestling in the semifinals. He started wrestling as a junior in high school, but an injury cut his season short. His senior year was his first full year of wrestling and now, as a sophomore needed a wildcard into the tournament, he's one win away from the finals.

I'll also talk with Williams Baptist head coach Kerry Regner. He brought four wrestlers to the tournament in the program's first year and 125-pounder Isaiah Johnson will be the school's first All-American after earning his way into the semifinals.

Ottawa's Kevin Andres qualified two wrestlers and 141-pounder Tyler Hinton earned All-American honors by pinning returning All-American A.J. Valles in the blood round.

St. Andrews coach Joe Baranik has coached at the Division I level and at the high school level, but heavyweight Denzel Vaughan moved into the semifinals giving the program its first NAIA All-American. Started as a Division II program nine years ago, the school reclassified to the NAIA and Vaughan, a Virginia native, had to rally to get the win.

Episode 148 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast goes to Topeka for the NAIA National Championships. We'll talk with Manhattan (Kansas) High School coach Bob Gonzales, who is part of the Local Organizing Committee for the championships. Bob talks about the growth of NAIA wrestling and the growth of the college wrestling programs in Kansas.

We'll then visit with the always entertaining Caleb Schaeffer, the head wrestling coach at the University of Great Falls. Schaeffer talks about the competition level in the NAIA and the nuances that it provides in the wrestling community. The NAIA championships take place in Topeka on March 6-7.

Iowa Central just captured its first NJCAA national championship in five years on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa. On Episode 147 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, we'll chat with head coach Luke Moffitt about how the team went from a disastrous 1-4 start in the opening round to coming back and taking the championship on the second day.
Moffitt will also talk about the dynamic of junior college wrestling and how he's been able to give kids first and second chances.

We'll also talk with one of the more entertaining characters in college wrestling, 197-pound champion Pat Downey. A 2012 Junior World silver medalist in freestyle, Downey started his career at Nebraska after spending time at the Olympic Training Center.

After leaving Nebraska, Downey explains how he ended up at Iowa Central and how wrestling in junior college hasn't slowed him down from accomplishing his dreams. He also explains how this year changed him as a person and as a wrestler as part of a real team dynamic.
