Being the son of a fantastic wrestler lends itself to a little bit of pressure. When you're the son of six-time World and Olympic champion John Smith, that might put a capital P on the word pressure.

On Episode 187 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, I'll talk with Joe Smith, the Outstanding Wrestler at the 2015 USA Wrestling Junior Freestyle National Championships held recently in Fargo, N.D.

Joe will join his father next season as he hits the college mats in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Smith's wrestling roots run deep and they branch out all over the state of Oklahoma and as we'll learn, also into Major League Baseball.

Was it pretty much assumed Joe would be wrestling? What was the relationship between one of the sport's greatest coaches and the Stillwater High coach? Find out answers to those questions and more on Short Time!

How does a tournament that attracts thousands of people from around the country impact an often overlooked part of the country?

We'll find out on Episode 184 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast where we talk with Dr. Tim Mahoney, the mayor of Fargo. Mahoney grew up in North Dakota and headed to Notre Dame and got some serious degrees along the way. He went back to Fargo in 1980 and worked as a surgeon, a job he still holds today.

We'll talk with Mahoney about the economic impact of the USA Wrestling Cadet and Junior Nationals on the metropolitan area, how the oil boom in western North Dakota has shaped the Fargo population (it's in the east, in case you're geographically challenged) and how the community welcomes the wrestlers and coaches who compete in the Fargodome every year.

I also go into a bit of a history lesson, explaining how I got to Fargo way back in 1999.

In September of 2014, Minnesota native Andy Bisek ended a Greco-Roman medal drought for the United States that went back to 2010. Dremiel Byers was the last American to win a medal at the World or Olympic Games until Bisek broke through in Taskhent.

On Episode 183 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, we'll visit with Bisek prior to his participation in the Pan American Games where he'll talk about his development as a Greco-Roman force from his modest beginnings as a third-place finisher at the Minnesota state tournament.

Chaska High might not have a state title, but it's got a senior-level World medalist. Bisek also talks about his training situation in Colorado Springs, how a trip to Northern Michigan shaped his career and what he believes the American wrestlers have to do to gain some respect for Greco-Roman in their own country.

Oh, and yes, we talk about his mustache. Follow him (and his mustache) on Twitter @Biseks_stache.

Private training and clubs are nothing new to youth sports and its certainly nothing new in the sport of wrestling. For New Jersey native Mike Malinconico, creating the Rhino Wrestling Club was an accident.

On Episode 182 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, we'll talk with Malinconico about his philosophy on coaching, developing talent and dealing with people critical of a paid component in wrestling.

Malinconico has also taken the "lock in" technique and brought it wrestling, putting attendees through a rigorous 24-hour workout session he developed after doing a Death Race up in Vermont.

Those lock-ins got him featured on Vice Sports (read the story here). We'll talk about the idea behind Vice's story. We'll also touch on his podcast, Wrestling Life, and how wrestlers like Scott Winston and Tyler Fraley helped the Rhino Wrestling Club get started.

He's real, which means there's some language here that could be objectionable to some.

Episode 181 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast features Spenser Mango, the man who's owned Greco-Roman's lowest weight on the U.S. stage since 2008.

The Missouri native and member of the Army's World Class Athlete Program made his eighth-straight U.S. World or Olympic team after topping Jesse Thielke in the Greco-Roman best-of-three finals split between Las Vegas and Ithaca, N.Y.

Mango talks about his journey into Greco-Roman wrestling after choosing that route after nearly attending Division II Truman State. Mango went to Northern Michigan and helped launch a revival in the Greco-Roman wrestling landscape.

Then Mango joined the Army, where half of the 2015 U.S. World Team, comes from. Mango overcame childhood tragedy, losing his father in an unsolved shooting when he was young and now is building a family of his own.

Will 2015 be different for Mango, who is searching for his first World-level medal? What's going to be the difference?

Episode 180 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast will talk to two former Knox College wrestling coaches in the hopes of finding out just where the issues arose after the school cut its Division III wrestling program last week.

Joe Norton and Matt Lowers both ran the program for one year. Norton left prior to this past season to take the coaching post at his alma mater, Division III North Central College in Naperville, Ill. Certainly no shame in having an opportunity to coach one's alma mater. Lowers, a Concordia-Moorhead graduate, was previously the head coach at the University of the Cumberlands, an NAIA program in Kentucky. He stepped away from coaching Knox after one year due to medical issues.

Both Norton and Lowers talk about where they saw the program heading, why they left and what happened to the alleged dedication to the program from boosters? Both coaches believed there was a pledge from alumni to help fund the program for five seasons. Norton and Lowers were the first two full-time head coaches in program history after Tony Islas stepped down after 12 years as a part-time coach.

Where do we go from here?
