Episode 168 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast goes to the NAIA
where Jimmy May is being called upon again to start a new program
in the state of Kansas.
May spent over 30 years as a high school coach in Nevada and then
he retired. Then he called some friends who enticed him to apply
for a new coaching position at Baker University. Well, May accepted
and launched the new NAIA program. Then he stepped away from
wrestling, but then got called back into it. He's now been tabbed
as the new head coach at the brand new program at Kansas
Wesleyan.
For May, it's familiar territory -- Kansas and a new NAIA program.
But on Short Time, we learn about what drew May to the Midwest and
we talk about his days wrestling with Gary Mayabb, Mike Hagerty and
others at Central Missouri and the role of smaller programs when it
comes to putting the next generation of coaches and teachers into
the ranks.
