Erkin Tadzhimetov came to the U.S. as a competitor for the
Junior World Championships back in 1998. He was in line to be the
representative for Uzbekistan in upcoming senior level
championships, but then things changed.
Years later, he sits as the associate head coach at Utah Valley
University and is on the coaching staff at the Junior World
Championships for Team USA in Trnava, Slovakia.
Tadzhimetov talks about his journey to the U.S., his battle for the
right to compete for his home country, his process to get
citizenship and what it was like to compete for the final time
representing his new home.
Has he been back to his homeland? What happens when or if that
happens?
