The long and storied history of Perry High School wrestling in Perry, Oklahoma is being chronicled in an upcoming documentary. That storied history added another milestone last month when Perry won the school's 1,000th dual meet.

On Episode 495 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, I talk with head coach Ronnie Delk, an Oklahoma State alum, in his eighth year coaching the program. The school and town center around wrestling, with a noted monument dedicated to all its state champions as well as historical heroes like Jack VanBebber and Danny Hodge.

What's it like being an "outsider" coaching in Perry? How relevant is Danny Hodge today? What about guys like Jake Hager? How did Delk's battles with Daniel Frishkorn for the starting spot at 141 pounds at Oklahoma State impact his career and impact how he coaches kids?

Information on the documentary, The Price of Legacy, can be found at ThePriceOfLegacy.com

Menlo College is a small, business-minded school in California's Silicon Valley. Joey Bareng is a native Hawaiian who found himself ready to coach. Six years ago, Bareng took over at Menlo and the slow process of building the women's program from the bottom to the top began. That process came to a head on February 9 as Menlo won the school's first national title in any sport as the Oaks won the WCWA championship and crowned three individual winners.

On Episode 494 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, Bareng will talk about his beginnings in Hawaii, wrestling at San Francisco State and jumping right into coaching. Bareng coached Alleida Martinez, Gracie Figueroa and Solin Piearcy to national titles this season, the first national champs in Menlo's history that weren't named Fulp-Allen.

What's the future look like for the school of barely 750 students? What about the growth of women's wrestling and the recruiting grounds in California that he's finally been able to pluck talent?

After wrestling for 96 years, Colorado School of Mines still hadn't ever won the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title. On February 6, the Orediggers topped Colorado Mesa to claim a share of the regular season title, assuring the program of its first RMAC championship in school history. And just for stat nerds, Mines is the only original member of the conference, which was founded in 1909.

On Episode 493 of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast, Colorado School of Mines head coach Austin DeVoe talks about this season, how his team has been building for the last two years and how he's assembled a team of smart wrestlers and smart coaches. You'll also learn the story of Blaster the Burro and the meatwad moniker.

The 16th WCWA National Championships are coming to Marietta, Georgia on February 8-9 and to talk about it is the head coach of the host Life University Running Eagles women's team, Ashley Sword.

A Florida native, Sword started wrestling in the 11th grade and then traveled across the country trying to find the right situation for her education and wrestling. After stints at Missouri Valley, the OTC and Oklahoma City, she was out of wrestling until the sport did what it does - brings people back in.

In her second year as the head coach at Life, Sword and assistant coach Christian Flavin are ready to run this event. Sword talks about her background, getting into coaching, the development of the women's wrestling scene and what it's been like to see the wave of great women coming into the sport.
